Some events become part of the city’s summer identity. Jazz Monday is one of them.
Starting on Monday, July 6, and continuing every summer Monday at 8:45 PM, Piazza Alberti will once again come alive with music thanks to a new edition of the jazz series organized by the Società della Musica di Mantova, under the artistic direction of Marcello Abate, in collaboration with Laboratorio and Tiratappi.
This free concert series brings artists, original projects, and outstanding performers to the heart of the city, showcasing the many facets of contemporary jazz. It is an opportunity to experience one of Mantua’s most charming squares in a different way: outdoors, surrounded by culture, conviviality, and great music.
At Laboratorio, Jazz Monday perfectly reflects our idea of community and hospitality: an open, inclusive, and vibrant space where music becomes a meeting point for people, ideas, and generations.
The 2026 Line-Up
Monday, July 6 – Toeur + Phresoul
The festival opens with a double bill dedicated to experimentation and musical exploration.
Toeur was formed in 2025 as a quartet and performs original instrumental compositions. While drawing inspiration from mathematical minimalism, the band rejects rigid categorization, constantly exploring new sonic territories and influences. A project in continuous evolution, Toeur is already looking ahead to the future, with plans to record its first album as an octet by 2026.
Phresoul, founded by David Paulis (bass) and Enrico Truzzi (drums), is an ensemble that pushes beyond the traditional boundaries of jazz by embracing contemporary and experimental influences. The name draws inspiration from a famous quote by Sun Ra: “So I play phre music – music of the sun.” Their latest album, The Very End Of Jumbo Pirates, released in April 2025 on Hyperjazz Records, is an intense sonic narrative that transforms the contradictions of our time into creative energy.
Monday, July 13 – Abate Benedetti Paternesi Trio
A trio that combines experience, musical dialogue, and a deep understanding of the jazz language. Their performance moves effortlessly between tradition and contemporary expression, creating a concert built on listening, interplay, and improvisation.
A jazz trio with a distinctive sound: the tuba takes the place of the bass, shifting seamlessly between grooves and solos, while the guitar weaves together harmonies, bass lines, and improvisation. Jazz standards and original compositions meet in a creative dialogue among the three musicians.
Monday, July 20 – Elisa Aramonte Duo
The world of Broadway musicals, told through the voice and guitar of a duo that has spent more than five years exploring these masterpieces through meticulous research, tracing their origins and the journey that transformed them into timeless standards.
A repertoire focused on the works of George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, and their contemporaries.
Monday, July 27 – Mauro Negri Standards Trio
A journey through the great jazz classics, reinterpreted with elegance, expressive freedom, and profound musical sensitivity.
The Mauro Negri Standards Trio presents a repertoire dedicated to the standards of the jazz tradition, exploring sounds that range from swing to more contemporary atmospheres.
The trio features:
- Mauro Negri – tenor saxophone & clarinet
- Stefano Senni – bass
- Federico Negri – drums
Three musicians united by a strong artistic connection and extensive experience on Italian and international stages. The result is a refined and engaging performance where lyricism, rhythmic energy, and tonal exploration come together in celebration of the great jazz tradition.
Monday, August 3 – Vincenzo Bosco Sextet
Vincenzo Bosco 6tet is the project of Bologna-based pianist and composer Vincenzo Bosco. With My Lost Humanity, the sextet offers a musical reflection on the frenzy and alienation of contemporary life, blending modern jazz, poetry, and spoken word. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Steve Coleman, Henry Threadgill, and John Zorn, the ensemble creates an original and highly narrative musical language.
The group has performed at renowned venues and events including the Torrione Jazz Club in Ferrara, Teatro Asioli in Correggio, and the Conad Jazz Contest at Umbria Jazz. In 2026, the project won the Encoder grant to support the production and promotion of its debut album.
Monday, August 10 – Closing Concert
The final event of the series will be the traditional closing concert, a moment of celebration and shared enjoyment that will bring the 2025 edition of Jazz Monday to a close and look ahead to next summer.

Jazz Monday is an invitation to slow down, take a seat outdoors, and let the music guide you through one of the most charming corners of Mantua.
Before the concert, throughout the evening, or after the final encore, Laboratorio and Tiratappi will be waiting for you in Piazza Alberti with great food, cocktails, wine, and the unique atmosphere of Mantua’s summer nights.
